UFCOM Tacky Sweater Run

Everyone has come to know and love the annual Haiti 5K, taking place in August each year, but this year, we’re changing things just a bit. In the past, each of the 6 UF College of Medicine Global Health trips have worked to fundraise separately, and while we will still be working hard for our individual trips, we are trying something new by coming together to put on one large event, supporting all the Spring Break trips together. It will still be the great 5K that we’ve all enjoyed the last few year and all proceeds will still go to support trips which share in the mission to provide medical care to individuals throughout the Caribbean and Latin America who would otherwise not have access! For anyone who has been a part of the Project Haiti 5K in the past, we hope you will still come out, just a few months later, and for anyone who is joining us for the first time, welcome! We have had some amazing support from the Gainesville community each year, and we are excited for another great race this year on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 8 am.

All proceeds from the race go to support UF College of Medicine’s 6 Global Outreach Trips, which seek to provide medical care to individuals in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Ecuador. The funds we raise are used for medical supplies, essential medicines, and on-the-ground team needs. Anything that we do not use on the trips is donated to the clinics and organizations we work with on the ground, which provide continued support and care in our respective countries.

Race Information and Registration

Registration will take place through Active.com. We plan to have a registration link up soon! For those who would prefer to register by mail, we will have an option for that as well!

This year, our 5K will be known as the UFCOM Tacky Sweater Run.  It will still be a timed, official 5K, but we’re also welcoming families, kids, leashed pets, and anyone else who wants to join for the run. The race will begin at the Commuter Lot on Gale Lemerand Drive on UF’s campus. After the race there will be water, snacks, a raffle, and a presentation of certificates to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers.

Course Map

Below is a map of the course planned for Saturday morning. There will be a mid-way water station, as well as snacks and water at the finish line. The race will begin at the Gale Lemerand Commuter Lot, and the course continues to Mowry Road, past SW Rec, around Lakeside, and returns past Lake Alice and the bat houses to the finish line. Best of luck to all of our runners!

Sponsorship Information

All the work done by each of our trips relies on the funds that we can raise through events like this 5K. Your help and support is greatly appreciated, and essential to our being able to obtain critical medicines and health supplies for our trips. We are a completely medical-student-run 501(c)(3) organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.
